Working at Eastern

Our people come to us from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Why do they choose EPS and why do they choose to stay?

In their own words here are their stories:

Christian

I’ve been with Eastern Property Services for over six years.

Prior to joining EPS, I was self-employed working in the domestic and commercial sectors of the building industry. Prior to my current position at EPS, I worked for a national company in operations and management before moving to my current position at EPS.

I chose to join EPS in 2016 as they were a growing business that clearly focused on delivering high-standard projects. In addition, they provided an excellent team environment and company culture to work for.

Working at EPS has personally proven to be extremely rewarding on a professional level. I’m surrounded by an amazing group of work colleagues that provide outstanding support.

One of my main reasons for joining EPS was the great culture. This provides me with a workplace with limitless opportunities for personal growth on all levels. It is an environment that I enjoy coming to work in.

As one of the senior staff members, I see a bright future in continuing to grow with the business. I also see myself progressing toward achieving my personal goals.

Sophia

I have worked at EPS for just over one year.

I started my career with a Tier 1 builder and worked there for five and a half years as a site secretary, working alongside a contract administrator.

I took an interest in the CA role and knew that was the path I wanted to go down. I then moved to a Tier 3 builder where I was a Project Coordinator/ Contract Administrator, working for five years on small projects and maintenance divisions. I managed multiple contracts with councils, government and education departments. I also worked on building management for multiple high-rise buildings, handling all incoming requests on a day-to-day basis as well as project tasks.

Over the years, I realised that the most important thing to me was working in a team environment where colleagues encourage you and help you grow within a company. EPS has excellent career opportunities and encouragement to work closely with experienced and knowledgeable staff that will support and guide you in the direction you want to progress. This is what stood out for me the most.

When people ask why I like EPS, for me it’s a warm and welcoming environment. I feel like I’ve been supported from day one. That’s something that stood out to me the most. I also have the flexibility as a working mum. At EPS you feel part of the family.

EPS has a great reputation for quality builds and communication. I see myself working here long term as the growth opportunities are endless, I feel EPS has shown support from day one to get me on my way to achieving my personal goals.

Matthew

I’ve worked at EPS for three years.

The company I previously worked for was a multinational construction consultancy firm. In my role, I divided my time between traditional Quantity Surveying and Asset Management consulting.

I decided to move to EPS as I wanted to change my career progression into a more construction-focused role and become a Project Manager. I started at EPS as a junior project manager. I have been able to work on a diverse and distinctive range of projects because of EPS. It gave me the chance to push myself and increase my understanding of the construction sector. Management has fully supported my career growth.

At EPS, we are strongly focused on work-life balance while maintaining a healthy work environment. Senior management is highly accessible and offers all the help anyone needs. You will gain experience by working on a variety of projects of all sizes and sorts. I appreciate EPS’s high faith in its workers.

Ruth

I’ve worked for EPS for the last 18 Months.

I have a Marketing qualification and background but decided it was not the career path I wanted to pursue. I was approached and asked if I would be interested in running accounts and helping with the day-to-day tasks for a boutique construction company. I loved the work so started to take on more responsibility, especially around estimating. I learnt to do take offs and read documents and found I could incorporate my design and presentation knowledge from marketing with my interest in construction, cultivating into a role in tender submissions and proposals.

In 2021 I decided I wanted to move on to a larger company and expand my knowledge, this led me to my current position with EPS. The move to EPS has been amazing, I am learning a whole new facet of the construction industry. I love the culture and people I work with, my Bulldog has become the office mascot, regularly running around the office and making sure everyone looks away from their screen and at him for a few minutes. When I interviewed, I knew that EPS would be a great place to advance my skills and further my career.

Having bosses who are easy to approach and are flexible around your working environment has been excellent, if I need to work from home for a week or work a varied home/office work week there has been no issue varying my schedule. My colleagues have also been a standout point of difference with EPS along with management cultivating a culture that is open and accepting, this is highly important to me.

As my department grows, I am hoping to progress my skills to better facilitate the estimating process, working with the managers to expand and further facilitate both the Maintenance and Project divisions.

I have been with EPS since January 2021

Before immigrating to Australia, I was the Managing Partner of a building services company in London. I have gained experience in Site, Project and Safety Management.

EPS is a well-established company with the potential to grow in the future. Though it is always busy and the workload can be heavy, the EPS team is always willing to assist and support.

EPS stands out from other construction companies because it never cuts corners and constantly looks for ways to adapt and improve. I couldn’t have found a more suitable company for myself. I am excited not only about my future within the company but to grow with the company.

Ben

I’ve been with EPS for 2 years.

Prior to EPS, I worked in various construction roles including as a carpenter and leading hand for two of Melbourne’s leading contemporary builders.

EPS was the perfect fit for me to step into a site management role. They provided and continue to provide ongoing support and training to enhance my career progression in the industry. The main attraction was the supportive and encouraging environment. This was evident as early as my first interview.

Working with EPS offers daily challenges to navigate through with the project team. This provides an excellent way to develop as an individual working within a team environment. We have such varied projects to work on ranging from heritage refurbishments to newly constructed sporting pavilions. These different types of construction provide great exposure to all facets of the industry.

I see a future with EPS where I will continue challenging myself to become a more efficient and productive Site manager. I will also work to deliver quality projects on time and on budget. I am working towards a Project management role within the company.

Kevin

I’ve been with the company for three years.

Prior to EPS, I worked for Tier 2 & 3 builders in South Australia. I worked also on the client side with the University of Adelaide as a Contracts Administrator.

I chose EPS as I have the opportunity to contribute not only to the success of the projects but also to the improvement of the company’s processes and systems, as management is always open to developing innovative ideas. EPS also supported me in transitioning from SA to Melbourne for the role.

EPS provides an excellent work-life balance where you are kept busy but not overloaded. Everyone gets along well and there is a positive vibe in the office and on-site. Management is very supportive and always welcomes suggestions and new ideas.

While many smaller companies claim a ‘family feel’, EPS trumps them all. They genuinely care about their employees and listen.

I am looking forward to continuing to contribute and grow with the company.
